Yoslay Villaurrutia is a Cuban baseball coach and instructor affiliated with the Instituto Nacional de Deportes, Educación Física y Recreación (INDER) in Havana, Cuba, who now brings his expertise to the Ontario Baseball Academy in Hamilton, Ontario. With deep roots in Cuba’s renowned baseball development system, Villaurrutia has earned recognition for his technical precision, player-centred teaching style, and commitment to strengthening youth and community baseball programmes across Havana’s 10 de Octubre municipality.
Over the past several years, he has served as both player and instructor in some of the capital’s most competitive tournaments, including the Torneo Rafael Conte and the Super Clásico de La Habana, representing the “Clásicos” club. His on-field experience (recorded in multiple official box scores) reflects both tactical intelligence and discipline, qualities he now imparts to emerging athletes. As a “profesor de béisbol” within INDER’s regional framework, Villaurrutia contributed to Cuba’s long-standing tradition of nurturing baseball excellence through structured municipal and provincial training systems.
In his current role at the Ontario Baseball Academy, Villaurrutia leverages his international background and bilingual skills to coach Canadian youth players in hitting, fielding and in-game fundamentals, blending Cuba’s signature emphasis on rhythm, timing and community-based mentorship with progressive Canadian training tools. He is committed to helping players grow not only their baseball skills but also their mindset, work ethic and understanding of the game.
